How Complex Trauma Works in Therapy in Pasadena, CA
Complex Trauma therapy prioritizes emotional and physical safety from the very beginning. You set the pace, and nothing is forced or rushed.
We will:
→ Creating a calm, supportive environment
→ Building trust and collaboration
→ Respecting your boundaries and choice
Healing happens best when your nervous system feels safe enough to relax.
Healing at Your Pace
There is no timeline for trauma healing. Progress looks different for everyone.
Therapy meets you where you are, honoring your experiences while helping you create a future that feels safer, more fulfilling, and more aligned with who you are.
Also known as developmental trauma occurs when a person experiences prolonged emotional distress, neglect, relational or reoccurring traumas.
Unlike single-event trauma, complex trauma develops over time and impacts:
→ Emotional regulation
→ Nervous system functioning
→ Attachment patterns
→ Sense of self
→ Relationship dynamics
→ Stress tolerance
Because complex trauma becomes woven into the nervous system, healing requires gentle, relational, and body-based approaches, not just talk therapy.

I don't, no. so I can focus fully on you, not on insurance rules or corporate policies. This allows for higher quality care, more flexibility, and more confidentiality.
Why? Because real healing takes time, and your story is unique. Therapy isn’t about following a script or meeting quotas, it’s about creating a space where you feel seen and understood. Staying independent allows me to tailor our work to what you truly need, without being restricted by session limits or standardized treatments. This means we can go at your pace and focus on what matters most to you.
I know that paying out-of-pocket can feel overwhelming. To help, I’m happy to provide a monthly statement (a “Superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. I am happy to assist you through Thrizer
If the fee feels like a stretch, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I offer sliding-scale options because I believe therapy should be accessible. If you feel like we’d be a good fit, we can find a way to make it work. You're not alone in this—I’m here to support you every step of the way.
As a general rule, call your insurance company prior to our first session in order to verify out-of-network reimbursement and coverage by asking the following:
Does my plan include out-of-network, outpatient mental health coverage?
If so, what percentage of the fee do you reimburse for therapy with a licensed LMFT?
Do I have an annual deductible and has it been met?
Is there a limit to the number of sessions my plan covers per calendar year?
How do I submit claims?
Some carriers have been authorizing Telehealth during the COVID pandemic but intend to eventually drop this coverage. Clients must contact their plan administrator to verify that their PPO plan covers outpatient mental health via telehealth with an out-of-network provider.

All intake paperwork must be completed by the day before your first session. If it’s not, your appointment may be canceled and your slot released.
